Shootouts are my favorite type of hockey games but I like them best when the Whalers win.
The Whalers lost to the Kitchener Rangers 5-4 in a shootout Saturday. The Whalers played good and outshot the Rangers and it was 40-30 when I looked last but there were some shots after.
It was Teddy Bear Toss Night where if you bring a teddy bear, you can throw it on the ice when the Whalers score their first goal. Then they give the bears to underprivileged kids that don't have teddy bears. It was 0-0 in the first period when Matt Mistele scored. I ran down the aisle so to get closer to the ice and threw this teddy bear I brought on the ice. It was pretty fun. They said that over 1000 teddy bears were thrown on the ice. Channel 4 was there too filming it and I saw it on the news when I got home.
Oh another thing, the row two rows in front of us was the Tim Horton's Tidbits Row of the Game and everybody in that row got a box of donuts. But they had some extra boxes and my seat is on the aisle so when they were walking up with the extra boxes, the Whalers lady gave me a box of donuts! I ate two donuts and brought the rest home
Ryan Hartman had two goals and one assist and one of the goals was with less than a minute in regulation which sent the game into overtime, so I give Ryan Hartman the Whaler Town player of the game. We like Hartman because he scores goals but he also gets on the nerves of the other team and gets them mad with some of the things he does. He is kind of sneaky with that which is good.
I had some friends at the game tonight. After my hockey game in the afternoon, my coach said "Hey, Louis, are you going to the Whalers game tonight?" I said I go to every game but he already knows that. Then he said "I am going too" and he was bringing his son, Nick who is on the team. Then another kid said he was going too and then another kid said he was going. There are a lot of Whalers hats at our rink and there is one kid on another team who has Whaler autographs on his helmet. Tomas Holmstrom from Red Wings helps coaches one of the younger teams there and I have seen him a few times there. There is always a crowd by him at the rink.
Ok, well two home games next week so let's go Whalers!
