Plymouth Whaler shootout win in the cold

The Plymouth Whalers were playing at Comerica Park a few days ago. They were playing in the Winter Classic Festival. The Windsor Spitfires and the Saginaw Spirit were playing in the game just before and I saw both games. You should know who I was rooting for in the first game, the Spirit because they are close to us and I do not like the Windsor Spitfires because they are rivals with the Whalers. But anyway the festival had lots of booths with hockey stuff and trophies from the NHL and OHL. They also had a fan zone where they had street hockey, skating on synthetic ice, big slides, food, bands and more.

Before the Whalers game, we were waiting by the dugout so we could clap for the Whalers when they came out. After that, we went back to our seats and I put my program on the chair next to the seat and a lady came up and asked if she could see the program and I said "Yes" and then she said "Who is your favorite player?" I said "Ryan Hartman" and she said "Oh, then you are a Whalers fan". I said "Yes, we are season ticket holders". She was really nice and asked me who was my favorite OHL player of all time I said "Tyler Seguin". She said her son worked out with him at his gym. Then she said her son is a rookie on the London  Knights who the Whalers were playing. She said her son was Santino Centorame and was #88 so we talked about Santino for a little while. Then she asked me about my hockey team and what position I play. She was a nice lady so me and my dad said "Good luck to Santino on his hockey career." I thought that was pretty cool so I put up Santino's picture here and we were watching him during the game.

Now onto the game. There were no goals until the third period when the Whalers scored a goal from the point by Mathieu Henderson. It was a nice pretty goal and I think the goalie was looking the other way. Then the Knights came back and scored on a power player when Mitch Jones took a interference penalty. The game went to overtime and it was very slow for the Whalers but we got through it. Then came the shootout. Connor Chatham was first for the Whalers but he missed and London scored the next time. Then Zach Lorentz scored and London scored too but then Francesco Vilardi scored so when Alex Nedeljkovic stopped the Knights last shot, we won!

It was really cold for the game and it was raining too but it was a good time. Me and my brother Alex even got in a picture in the Detroit News where we are congratulating the Whalers at the dugout after the game. It is the last picture here and Alex is in the pink jersey and I am next to him in black and next to me is a guy in blue.

Go Whalers!

Hey, Vincent Trocheck is the OHL Player of the Week!

That's cool because he is my favorite player.

When Tyler Seguin was on the Whalers, I waited for his shifts and when he came on the ice, I watched everything he did. If I missed it, my dad would say "Seguin's on the ice" and then I would find him out there. Then when Alex Aleardi came to the Whalers, I did the same thing with him. Now I do it with Trocheck. Always looking for #25.

Tyler Seguin helps Canada win the Spengler Cup

I never even heard of the Spengler Cup before but I was checking it out and it is in Switzerland and it is the oldest invitational hockey tournament in the world.

Tyler is with Patrice Bergeron in the bottom picture.

Can you see Tyler in the top picture? I can.

This is the third team I count that Tyler has been on since he left the Whalers. It is pretty fun following his career and especially fun because I met him a lot of times and have signed hockey cards and also pictures of him and me together. I even have one picture of him signing my jersey on the right side of this page. I have others too. I even have a Tyler Seguin fathead on the wall in my room and maybe I will take a picture of it and show it here.

Hey did you know in Switzerland the leading scorer on a team gets a special helmet?

Tyler Seguin has a special yellow helmet because he is leading his team in scoring. The regular blue helmets are in the second picture. Patrick Kane has a blue helmet so Tyler Seguin is outscoring Patrick Kane. That is because the Whalers are better than the London Knights where Kane came from. It also means Tyler Seguin is ruling over there.

The Whalers should do this thing. They should put Shooter on the helmet scoring a goal or something.

No Whalers game at Compuware Arena today

So I got a few packs of hockey cards at Meijer.

And look who I got.

Yeah!

Gonna get it signed at the next Alumni Game.

Tyler Seguin's new jersey in Switzerland!

It's looks like a video game jersey kind of!

I think it was cooler when he skated out of the whale at Compuware Arena.

So Tyler Seguin is gonna play in Switzerland during the NHL lockout

He should stay with Dario Trutmann!

The Whalers are invading Switzerland!

I wanna see a picture of Seguin in those strange uniforms with the big words on the helmet and jersey!

Way to go Seguin!

Tyler Seguin signed a 6 year contract with the Bruins for $34 million!

I knew Tyler when he was making $50 a week!

I saw Tyler at the Alumni game a few weeks ago and he signed my Bruins and Whalers cards and a picture of me and him together. He's still nice and remembered when the picture was taken!

I have my second practice of the new season with my hockey team, Arsenal on Saturday and will keep getting better and maybe I can get to that level. If not, it's still a lot of fun.

The Spitfires in trouble for buying players?

Taylor Hall?

Tyler Seguin was better anyway and I don't think the Whalers bought him.

Whalers Alumni Game

I am Louis and 10 years old and my family are season ticket holders for the Whalers in Section 114. With help from my brother and my dad, I have been blogging about the Whalers on my other site for a couple of years but I also talked on that site about everything I do including my hockey and baseball teams. I decided to just talk about the Whalers here and I will talk about all other stuff about me on my other site.

Ok, so Saturday I went to the Whalers Alumni Game and it was great. A lot of Whalers from the past came and played a game against each other. I knew most of the players because I have been going to Whaler games since 2005 when I was 3 years old. The older guys I did not know. Before the game, there was an autograph session with the players. I brought my Whalers cards, some NHL cards and one picture of me and Tyler Seguin and got them signed. I got 22 hockey cards signed and now I have 155 Whaler signed cards. I got the others signed at the Alumni Game two years ago and also at Team Autograph Night during the season. I wanted to scan some of my autographed cards to put on this post but my mom couldn't get them up today and I did not want to wait on this post any more.

All the Whalers were nice and they asked me "How are you doing?" which was cool. I gave Tyler Seguin a picture of me and him to sign and he looked at it and smiled and said "I remember this. It was at Tim Horton's". That was cool that he remembered. Also Jamie Devane was really nice and he is always nice and he asked me how my summer was going. That was cool. I am going to miss Jamie. He came to my school once and saw me and said "I know you. What is your name?" and I told him I was Louis and then he remembered it when I saw him at the rink after.

The game was good and high-scoring and Matt Hackett made some pretty awesome saves. Well, he is in the NHL, you know. We remember when he came over from Windsor and we saw his first games with the Whalers. He got good real quick. He is nice too but I think he is kind of quiet. I go to every Whaler game but I usually end up missing 3 or 4 games a year because of my hockey tournaments and other stuff.

The last couple of years, I would do a blog report after most games on my other site. This year, I am going to try and do a blog report after maybe every game on this site. I think it's gonna be fun.

Come back this season if you like the Whalers!
