Good game but Whalers lose to the Greyhounds

The Whalers lost 6-5 to the Greyhounds tonight. Even though the Whalers lost, it was a good game.

The Whalers were winning 3-1 in the first period and we thought they would win for sure but they didn't. Matt Mahalak did not come out of the dressing room after the first period and we hope he is not injured. It is nice to see Alex Nedeljkovic play and maybe he should play more.

Colin McDonald made a great play where he was in the penalty box and as soon as he jumped out he floored one of the Greyhounds who was skating in and that was awesome. He timed it perfect.

Vince Trocheck had two goals and I give him the Whaler Town player of the game. I wore my Washington Capitols jersey and when Tom Wilson saw it, he nodded and said "Yeah" because he is drafted by the Capitals. Tomorrow, I think I am going to wear my Ottawa Senators jersey.

One cool thing is we were sitting behind a guy who was a referee in the ECHL and he just moved here from Carolina. He was really nice and we were talking to him all game. He knew what all the penalties were going to be and we knew most of them too but he knew every one before they were announced. Once, the referee put his arm half-up and put it down real quick and we said "That is a half-call!" and we asked him if he ever did that and he said "Yep" and started laughing. He said he would not have waived the Whalers tip-in goal off on goaltender interference because it could have gone either way and the goalie was totally fooled and any goaltender interference had nothing to do with the goal. He also said on another call in the first period that you can't call goaltender interference after a goal has been scored like the refs did when the goalie got hit after the goal. He said it should have been roughing or unsportsmanlike conduct. We told him to come to more games. He said he is going to try and work some high school games in this area and work his way up. That is cool.

Tomorrow, the Whalers play Peterborough and we have to win that game because the Petes are not very good, so go Whalers!

Kingston comes back against the Whalers

The Kingston Frontenacs beat the Whalers 7-6 tonight.

The Whalers should have won this game! The Whalers outshot Kingston by a lot and were winning in the third period but then we gave up three easy goals on weak shots. Two of them were "five-hole". Every time there is five-hole goal against the Whalers I always say to my dad "Five-hole!". Matt is a good goalie but he needs to close up the five-hole. I know on my team when a five-hole goes in, I am usually thinking, "Man, did that really go in." But it is a team game and I make mistakes on defense too so you can't get too mad.

Matt Mistele had a hat trick tonight so I give him the Whaler Town player of the game for his three goals. I wish it could have been in a win. Matt Mistele is really nice. During autograph night a few weeks ago, he said to me "I like your hat! What team is that?" and I told him it was the Hartford Whalers.

Gianluca Curcuruto had a another good game and was really carrying the puck and making some scoring chances. He also is good at bringing the puck up the ice like Beau Schmitz used to do. My dad told me to watch his shot from the point because it is strong and it is. We are liking Gianluca.

I forgot to mention, Kingston had a guy who grabbed and threw a punch at Tom Wilson while he was sitting on the bench. He only got two minutes for fighting from the bench. He should have been kicked out the game. He's lucky.

Oh, well. I bet the Whalers are going to pick it up next week.

Go Whalers!

Man, we gave up 8 goals to Saginaw the other night?

I know Matt and the defense will pick it up.

We need to backcheck too.

My coach tells the forwards all the time that they need to backcheck. It helps us defensemen too.

Sarnia stings the Whalers

Ok, the Whalers didn't play so great yesterday and lost to the Sarnia Sting 7-5. My brother and dad were saying that the Sting were just quicker to the puck in the first two periods. Also we gave up an easy "five-hole" goal on a weak shot early and that didn't help.

One good thing is that Zach Bratina scored his first OHL goal. I hope they saved the puck for him. Another good thing is I won the Whalers Kids Club player signed photograph of Alex Aleardi and they announced my name over the loudspeaker and put my name on the big screen. I won one of Alex last year too but I will take another one. That's cool. If I can scan it, I might it up here in a post.

Another cool thing is we saw Mitchell Heard walking around the crowd and it was nice to see Mitchell again. He was walking around with Tom Wilson who is injured right now.

Well Alex Aleardi scored two goals so I give him the Whaler Town player of the game.

I bet the Whalers will play better next week.

The next game is Tuesday afternoon  and we don't have school because it is election day. I don't know if my dad or my mom is going to take us because my dad works on Tuesday but we are going because we have tickets.

I read this comic strip "Small Saves" all the time!

It's about a little goalie called "Small Saves" and his adventures.

I wonder if this ever happened to Matt Mahalak?
