Mitchell Heard wins it for the Whalers!

Great game yesterday as the Whalers beat the Spitfires 4-3 in overtime. Mitchell Heard scored the game-winner and it was a beautiful goal. He was one on one with a defenseman going in on net and he put a spin move on and the defenseman got out of position and then Mitchell shot it in the net. It was the best goal I saw all year. It was a sell-out yesterday and when Mitchell scored that goal the crowd went crazy and it was LOUD! I give Mitchell Heard the Whalertown player of the game.

Vince Trocheck scored too and it was his 50th goal of the year. Right now he was something like over 100 points and is tied for the league lead in scoring and I hope he wins the scoring title. I remember when Tyler Seguin won the scoring title a few years ago and that was great.

The playoffs start Friday and Saturday next week and we are going to both games. I think we are going to play the Sarnia Sting.

Go Whalers!

Colts come from behind to beat the Whalers

Not a great game for the Whalers tonight against the Barrie Colts. The Whalers played pretty good in the first period and were winning 3-1 but the Colts took it to the Whalers and outshot them in the second and third periods. In the third period, the Whalers were short-handed almost the whole period and the Colts zoomed past them and won 6-3.

The Colts have this forward named Mark Scheifele who is #19 and is really good. He is big, strong and fast and makes a lot of scoring chances. He scored one goal and had some assists too.

Oh, well, one good thing is even though the Colts scored 6 goals, 2 were empty-netters and we didn't give up any soft goals.

I give Vince Trocheck the Whaler Town player of the game because he got two goals. Trocheck just keeps on scoring.

I cannot go to the game tomorrow because I have a game at 7:40 but my brother Alex is going so he can tell me how the game goes.

Go Whalers!

Whalers take care of the Petes

The Whalers beat the Peterborough Petes 4-1 tonight. The Whalers played pretty awesome and got 58 shots. Peterborough is not very good and I think only Ottawa is a team I saw this year that is worse.

One thing we noticed is that the Petes let the Whalers sit in the slot a lot and do not move or pick up the guy so that gives a lot of good scoring chances. Matt Mistele had two goals and one was from the slot and Gianluca Curcuruto had two goals and he always gets his on slap shots from the point. Gianluca has a real hard shot and he also almost always puts the puck on net. Other guy's shots from the blue line sometimes miss the net. I give Matt Mistele the Whaler Town player of the game. Matt is a really smooth player. He's also pretty cool. At the first autograph game this year, I was wearing my Hartford Whalers hat and when he was signing my cards and smiled and said "I like your hat!"

One cool thing is that my brother caught an MGM Grand Casino t-shirt and it fits him too.

It was Trading Card Night tonight and I got my pack of Whalers cards and they look really good this year, maybe the best ever. One good thing is they were able to get our new players Vincent Trocheck and Sebastian Uvira in the set. I am going to get the cards signed at the second autograph night in two weeks. I already have over 200 signed Whaler cards and I am going to get more.

Now the bad news. Real bad news! I have to miss both games next week. Friday, I have to do something and I would rather see the Whalers but I am signed up for something. Saturday, I have a night game in my league at the same time as the Whalers. I don't mind missing Saturday because I want to play every game I can. My brother is going Saturday but not Friday so he can tell me about the Saturday game. This is the first time since we have been season ticket holders that I missed two games in a row.

So go Whalers and win while I am gone next week!

Good game but Whalers lose to the Greyhounds

The Whalers lost 6-5 to the Greyhounds tonight. Even though the Whalers lost, it was a good game.

The Whalers were winning 3-1 in the first period and we thought they would win for sure but they didn't. Matt Mahalak did not come out of the dressing room after the first period and we hope he is not injured. It is nice to see Alex Nedeljkovic play and maybe he should play more.

Colin McDonald made a great play where he was in the penalty box and as soon as he jumped out he floored one of the Greyhounds who was skating in and that was awesome. He timed it perfect.

Vince Trocheck had two goals and I give him the Whaler Town player of the game. I wore my Washington Capitols jersey and when Tom Wilson saw it, he nodded and said "Yeah" because he is drafted by the Capitals. Tomorrow, I think I am going to wear my Ottawa Senators jersey.

One cool thing is we were sitting behind a guy who was a referee in the ECHL and he just moved here from Carolina. He was really nice and we were talking to him all game. He knew what all the penalties were going to be and we knew most of them too but he knew every one before they were announced. Once, the referee put his arm half-up and put it down real quick and we said "That is a half-call!" and we asked him if he ever did that and he said "Yep" and started laughing. He said he would not have waived the Whalers tip-in goal off on goaltender interference because it could have gone either way and the goalie was totally fooled and any goaltender interference had nothing to do with the goal. He also said on another call in the first period that you can't call goaltender interference after a goal has been scored like the refs did when the goalie got hit after the goal. He said it should have been roughing or unsportsmanlike conduct. We told him to come to more games. He said he is going to try and work some high school games in this area and work his way up. That is cool.

Tomorrow, the Whalers play Peterborough and we have to win that game because the Petes are not very good, so go Whalers!

Hey, Vincent Trocheck is the OHL Player of the Week!

That's cool because he is my favorite player.

When Tyler Seguin was on the Whalers, I waited for his shifts and when he came on the ice, I watched everything he did. If I missed it, my dad would say "Seguin's on the ice" and then I would find him out there. Then when Alex Aleardi came to the Whalers, I did the same thing with him. Now I do it with Trocheck. Always looking for #25.

Trocheck and the Whalers sting the Sting

The Whalers beat the Sting 6-2 yesterday at Compuware Arena. It was a good game. I came right from my game because I had a game at 5:00 and we were cutting it close.

The Sting scored first on a long soft shot from the blue line and I was thinking "Oh boy", but then the Whalers took over. The Whalers outshot the Sting by a lot and there were some long stretches where the Sting did not touch the puck. Vincent Trocheck scored two goals, one was just above the slot and the other was a nice passing play where he got it and deked the goalie. Trocheck is my favorite player and I give him the Whaler Town player of the game.

Colin McDonald had a good fight where he put his guy down and then the guy got up and then Colin put him down again and landed on top of him. Colin does not fight very much and this might be the first time we saw him fight this year but I could be wrong.

This was pretty funny. After the game, me, my dad and Alex went to McDonald's next to the arena. A bunch of Sting fans came in and one guy was in a wheelchair and he had a Sting jersey and on the back where the name is his said "Hot Wheels" I guess for his wheelchair. We saw him being pushed in the front door so we opened the door for him and then we saw he was "Hot Wheels" which was cool.

Two games next week and I think one is Trading Card Night and I like those because I get the cards signed and I have over 200 signed Whalers cards. I hope the Whalers had time to get a Trocheck card in there.

Whalers get back on track with big win over Erie

Today the Whalers played a matinee afternoon game and beat the Erie Otters 7-1. The Whalers carried the play the whole game and outshot Erie 48-25. It was a fun game to watch.

Both Zach Lorentz and Cody Payne had two goals and it was cool that Coach Vellucci gave them the last shift of the game so one of them could get a hat trick but it didn't happen. Lorentz is new because we got him for Alex Aleardi and he is a smooth player and not real big or really physical but he looks solid. Vince Trocheck got three assists and I think he is our best player right now.

We have a new player named Sebastian Uvira who we got from Oshawa. Sebastian is from Germany and he is pretty big. Today was the first game that he got a regular shift and he was great. He was carrying the puck and making scoring chances and hitting everybody. Then he got in a good fight with Dane Fox and put him down early but Fox got up and they kept going. I am liking Sebastian Uvira.

No game until next Saturday. I have a late game Saturday so I will be getting there just before the game so I can't get handslaps from the players during pre-game warmups but that is ok.

Not a very good game at all for the Whalers

Yesterday the Whalers lost to the Soo Greyhounds 7-3. It may have been the worst game of the season. Both of our goalies let in a lot of soft and easy goals and one even went in on a weak shot from the blue line. My Uncle Mike was at his first Whaler game this year and he was sitting across the ice from us and after the blue line goal he lifted his arms to me and my brother like he was saying "What the heck was that?" Then we raised our arms back at him.

The game was a little weird in that the Whalers scored two short-handed goals on the same penalty. Vince Trocheck scored his first goal as a Whaler too. I like Trocheck. My Uncle Mike was telling my brother he didn't like Trocheck for some reason and then right after this, Trocheck scored. That was funny!

Danny Vanderwiel scored a nice short-handed goal where he was the trailer on a breakaway and put in a rebound so I give him the Whaler Town player of the game. Vanderwiel is pretty cool because he is #18 like I am on my team.

The Whalers play a matinee game Monday against Erie and we are going and I hope they better.

Ryan Hartman gets a hat trick as the Whalers roll past Erie

Pretty good game yesterday when the Whalers beat the Erie Otters 4-3 in overtime.

Erie was a lot better than Brampton who the Whalers played Friday even though Brampton has a better record. The first two periods were about even as the Whalers were outshooting Erie but Erie was winning 3-2. Then the Whalers tied it up on Cody Payne's goal when he was skating in on right wing, got a pass and shot it in.

In overtime, Ryan Hartman took a long shot from almost the top of the circle and the Erie goalie got his glove on it but it flipped out and rolled in the net and Whalers won. Ryan had three goals in the game so I give him the Whaler Town player of the game. Trochek was playing on his line and got three assists. Both of those guys really irritate the other team and when they are on together, that is great. When Trochek was on Saginaw, I did not like him because of that but it is good now.

Connor Sills got into a long rough fight with Connor Crisp in the first period and he never came back. My brother said he saw him with an ice pack on his face and shoulder so I hope he is ok.

The Whalers are really coming on now.

Mistele and Trochek help the Whalers beat Bramptom

Yesterday, the Whalers beat the Brampton Battalion 4-2. I was looking forward to this game because it was going to be Vincent Trochek's first game with the Whalers. Trochek used to kill the Whalers when he was with Saginaw and it is great to have him on our team now. He is really skilled and scores, and throws checks and he is a pest. My dad says he is the most underrated player in the OHL. I just know I like him.

Before the pre-game warmups, me and my brother Alex stood at the Whalers tunnel like we always do waiting for them to come out and slap their hands as they are walking to the ice. I had my hand out and most of the Whalers got it but Trochek didn't and I thought well maybe he doesn't slap hands but that is ok as long as he plays good. I see Trochek is number 25 now and not 89 like he was with Saginaw because I don't think the Whalers do those real high numbers. Well anyway, when the pre-game warmups were over and the players were coming off the ice, Trochek gave me a puck which was very cool. I heard when he was younger he played on Little Caesars which is cool because some kids on my team play for Little Caesars too and they are the best players.

Well the Whalers played pretty well and beat Brampton 4-2. Matt Mistele scored two goals. The first was when he was in the slot in front of the net and got a pass and shot it in. The second was a really pretty passing play on a break and he got a pass on left wing and put a quick shot in. I give Mistele the Whaler Town player of the game. Trochek got two assists and was doing playmaking and throwing checks too. The Whalers are really starting to click right now.

My old school, Orchard Hills Elementary in Novi was at the game and sang the National Anthems and I took some pictures and maybe I will put some up here.

Tonight is Country Night at Compuware Arena and there is a concert by a country band, Annabelle Road after the game. I saw them play last year and maybe I will stay this year and watch them again. I am not a big country western fan though but that is ok.

I didn't like the last trade but I liked this one!

The Whalers got Vincent Trocheck from Saginaw for Zach Bratina and some draft picks.

This is a good trade because Trocheck is pretty good and scores a lot of goals and he always seems to play well when we saw him with Saginaw. He would make me mad though when he played for Saginaw against the Whalers because he talks a lot on the ice and he is kind of a pest like Ryan Hartman but if he does that for us, that is great.

Also I see that he played midget hockey for Little Caesars which is cool because Little Caesars is one of the best lower junior teams in our area and some kids on my team also play on Little Caesars. Trocheck also was on the U.S. Juniors team with Ryan Hartman that won the gold medal a few weeks ago.

I can't wait to see Vincent Trocheck this Friday and Saturday. I will standing by the tunnel for hand-slaps.
